Translation: getting it right - a client’s guide to getting their money’s worth

The American Translators Association (ATA) has published a short guide for clients, giving some information and helpful tips about how to get the best translations possible. This guide includes a description of the difference between translation and interpretation; value analyses; and suggestions on things that you can do, both before and during the translation process, to help save both money and time. You can find a PDF copy of the guide, Translation: getting it right, on the ATA website, or click here for a direct link.

An international translation standard

ASTM International is a forum created to develop high-quality, industry specific standards,
which can be used globally. They have created a standard specifically for the translation industry (ASTM F2575-06 Standard guide for quality assurance in translation). This guide does not provide specific metrics. Rather, it provides a standardized framework that allows clearer understanding between parties, and ultimately, enables a more consistent fulfillment of the end user’s needs. BioMedical Translations, Inc. has incorporated the suggestions and guidelines into its ISO 9001:2008 compliant quality system, to further strengthen our dedication to quality. If you would like to view a brief description of the standard, or purchase a copy for your own use, you can go to the ASTM website or click here for a link directly to the ASTM F2575-06 standard.

ISO 9001:2008 certification

The ISO 9001:2008 standard is a system of metrics for creating, maintaining and improving a company’s quality system. A company must demonstrate that it consistently provides products or services that meet the customer’s needs and expectations, and that it constantly strives to improve the system. Customer satisfaction is the primary goal. The standard includes a rigorous set of requirements that must be met, and a company’s certification in the standard is only determined by an independent auditor.

BioMedical Translations achieved ISO 9001:2008 certification, as granted by BSI International, one of the world’s foremost companies of independent auditors for quality systems. We will always do what it takes to provide consistently excellent service and translations, and always meet your needs.
